DIY Things Your Kids Can Make for Fido

December 15, 2020

Have you picked out gifts for your family members yet? Of course, many people have their young ones at home this year. Our canine friends are thrilled about this development. Why not have the kids make something for your pup? Here are a few suggestions:

Treats

What dog doesn’t love a tasty snack? Do a bit of holiday baking with your kids! You can make your dog some simple biscuits by combining a half cup of oats, 2 cups of pureed pumpkin or sweet potato, an egg, a half cup of natural peanut butter, and three cups of whole-wheat flour. Roll the dough flat, then use a bone-shaped cookie cutter. About 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit should do it, or add more time to make the treats more crunchy.

Toys

Toys are fun for dogs, and they’re also good for your pooch both physically and mentally. Try cutting an old towel or tee shirt into thin strips. (Use a few different-colored ones to spice things up.) Braid the strips together and then braid the braids together. Once you have a good-sized rope toy, tie the end off in a big knot. Incorporate things like tennis balls or different shapes to really give Fido something to work on!

Bedding

Make sure your dog is sleeping comfortably this holiday season. Have the kids sew and stuff a blanket. Or, for something a little more complex, have them upcycle a piece of furniture. You can turn a coffee table upside down, repurpose a hard-shell suitcase, or even make a pallet bed. Paint and stain are your friends here! Check it over to make sure there are no sharp bits.

Treat Jar

Why not have your little ones decorate a treat jar for Fido? You can start with any simple ceramic jar or vase, or even a plain cookie jar. Decorate it with paint, stencils, glitter, or whatever else you like.
