Happy, Healthy Cats

September 1, 2019

September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month! Of course, kitties deserve to be happy and healthy all the time. However, this is the purrfect time to talk about how to keep your furball’s motor running. A Burlington, ON discusses keeping your kitty content in this article.

Basics

First things first. Make sure your furball is eating a high-quality, nourishing diet. Fluffy will also need a clean litterbox and plenty of fresh water.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy may not be happy about her appointments, but they will definitely help keep her healthy. All kitties should be fixed, spayed or neutered, and kept current on their vaccinations, exams, and parasite control. Keep up with your cat’s veterinary care!

Entertainment

Although your furry pal may really enjoy doing basically nothing all day, she does still need some form of entertainment. Offer Fluffy lots of toys to pounce on, and take time to play with her regularly.

Kittyproofing

As you may have noticed, kitties have a bit of a knack for getting themselves into mischief. Make your home safe for Fluffy by removing or securing anything you don’t want her eating, playing with, or sleeping on. This includes things like toxic plants; wires and cords; plastic bags; medicine; chemicals; and small or sharp objects.

Comforts

Small things make a big difference when it comes to keeping your feline pal happy. Provide Fluffy with lots of toys, and give her comfy beds to look unimpressed in. She will also appreciate some furniture, such as a cat tower. A good scratching post is also a must.

Keep Fluffy In

We know, many cats enjoy chasing butterflies, rolling around in the driveway, and refusing to come when called. However, your furball will be much safer staying inside! Kitties that go outside are exposed to many different dangers, such as cars, weather, and predators, to name just a few. To make being grounded a bit easier on Fluffy, set out some pet-safe plants for her, and give her a window seat with a good view. Check the ASPCA site here for suggestions.

Love

The final ingredient in any pet care regime is love. Pay lots of attention to Fluffy, and take time to pet her and play with her. Kitties are happiest when they feel loved!
